Is TikTok Getting Banned In USA?

Ok, so let’s clear up the confusion.

Firstly,

TikTok is not yet banned in the USA.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and US President Donald Trump have said that they are considering banning the app, but this still doesn’t mean that it it actually going to happen.

I personally feel that TikTok is just a symptom of a much rooted problem between the US and the Chinese government (ByteDance, the Internet company that owns TikTok is Chinese.).

So, the banning might just be a “political punishing tooI” that the US uses just to threaten China.

But it is also true that at end of the day we can never know for sure if the TikTok app is all that it appears to be.

On the surface it might be a cool children’s app.

Yet if we want to be honest it can also be a data collecting app for the Chinese government.

Personally, I feel that the US shouldn’t just ban an app just because it MIGHT be a problem.

At the end of the day, millions of apps collect data about our hardware, the people in our contact list, where we are located, and we all know that when we share our details with people that we don’t know we are taking a risk.

For example, millions of websites are collecting data about us when we visit them.

In many cases, when you enter an eCommerce website, for example, a cookie is insert into your browser, and then when you leave the website you are going to see advertisement that are related to the products that you saw on the website all across the web.

This is called remarketing.

TikTok has become much more than just a lip sync app/ dancing app, but really a force to be reckoned with, and thus I will be extremely surprised if the US will decide to ban it.

Yet again, I truly don’t know what will happen in the future.

What I do know is that TikTok was banned in Bangladesh and Indonesia, and also recently in India (and in India we are talking about 600 million people who suddenly can’t use their TikTok anymore, that’s a lose of 6 billion dollar in revenue for TikTok).

So, I guess we will have to see what happens.
